Cycling for “Doctors without borders/Médecins Sans Frontíeres”

As I´m going to cycle around 1.100 km I´d like to encourage you, my friends and visitors of this blog, to support the “Doctors without borders” with a donation of your choice.

I got the idea of collecting donations from the german long-distance-cyclist Peter Smolka who is travelling right now in Turkey. You can find is journey here:

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is a private international association. The association is made up mainly of doctors and health sector workers and is also open to all other professions which might help in achieving its aims.

All of its members agree to honour the following principles:

  • Médecins Sans Frontières provides assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict. They do so irrespective of gender, race, religion, creed or political convictions.
  • Médecins Sans Frontières observes neutrality and impartiality in the name of universal medical ethics and the right to humanitarian assistance and claims full and unhindered freedom in the exercise of its functions.
  • Members undertake to respect their professional code of ethics and to maintain complete independence from all political, economic or religious powers.

So I kindly encourage you to visit my (german) donation website to leave a few Euros…

Part two – from Geneva following the ViaRhona heading towards the Mediterranean Sea

Passing the border to France I´ll be back to the EU (using my german SIM card again) and follow the official cyclepath of ViaRhona.

Perhaps I will make an excursion to the Lac du Bourget. The next fixed stop though is Lyon… I´ve already booked 3 nights in there staying in a cozy hostel in the citycenter.
Here are so many cultural and architectural highlights to see like the Parc de la Tete D´Or or the Cathedrale Saint Jean Baptiste.

As there is an restriction to bicycles even on local trains in France since 2019 I can´t go all the way to the Mediterranean Sea and have to take the last possible station at Valence.
On my way there, I will visit the city of Tournon with the Chateau de Tournon and an old garden.
But what I´m really looking forward to is an excursion with the Train de l´Ardeche into a nice valley and then cycling back to the river Rhone along the DolceVia cyclepath.
Perhaps there will be the option to visit a Couchsurfing friend on a farm and he will show me around this area by bike.

Looking forward to this great journey along the river Rhone (also known as Rotten) I´m going to explore a rich variety of culture and history…
